Relaxed day trip to the Atlantic coast: white medina, sea ramparts, fishing harbour, argan oil cooperative and seafood lunch.
A lovely easy day out from the heat of Marrakech. The 2.5-hour drive west crosses Arganeraie forests where you'll stop at a women's argan oil cooperative to see how Morocco's legendary 'liquid gold' is pressed the traditional way. Then it's onto the walled seaside medina of Essaouira — a UNESCO-listed former Portuguese trading port with bright white-washed houses, blue-painted boats and a broad sandy beach. You'll have free time to wander the ramparts (Sqala du Port and Sqala de la Ville), browse the artisan souks famous for woodworking and musical instruments, walk the fishing port and enjoy a seafood lunch overlooking the ocean. Return to Marrakech in the late afternoon.
